Information about Library Activities and Programs

Activities and programs asscociated with libraries have been a standard tradition for a VERY LONG TIME. We are talking about a variety of all kinds of activities and programs presented to members of the communities whom libraries serve. Library programs involve a diverse group of people and organizations. Activities can be presented by paid staff members of the library, volunteers of the library, members of the Friends of the Library group, organizations/businesses within the community, and organizations outside the community that have unique features that are of interest to much of the public.

I will present a very small sample of some of the activities and programs that have been presented that were associated with the libraries of the Iosco-Arenac District Library system.

My website is not able to keep up with ALL the activities and happenings that each library within the IADL, provides. For example, some programs are provided by Headquarters, while some programs are presented by one specific branch library, only. For that reason, I suggest that if you want to keep up with the list of library activities and programs, then you may want to do what I did and subscribe to your favorite library Facebook page. When someone at a library posts something on the library Facebook page, then you will be updated with information coming from your favorite library. That is true of some Friends of the Library groups. Some of the libraries have a group that is known as the Friends of the Library. Some of these groups have their own Facebook page AND may provide their own activities. It seems to me that Headquarters is responsible for providing a majority (BUT NOT ALL) of the library activities and programs, and you may want to, at least, subscribe to the Iosco-Arenac District Library Facebook page. The main WEBSITE page is https://www.ioscoarenaclibrary.org/headquarters.htm. Their contact page is: https://www.ioscoarenaclibrary.org/contact%20us.htm

Contact information for all libraries within the Iosco-Arenac District Library system is located on the Headquarters website at: https://www.ioscoarenaclibrary.org/headquarters.htm. Click on the "Location and Hours" button on the left side of the screen. You will be presented with a list of the libraries within the IADL. Click on the name of a branch library and you will be presented with contact information.

"The What's Happening At Your Library" web page at the main website of Headquarters will provide a long list of activities/happenings at the branch libraries, per month. Click on the "Calendar" button on the main web page and you will get to the page that lists the activities. The link is https://www.ioscoarenaclibrary.org/events.htm

Facebook Pages

It seems like most people have a Facebook page so I will not go into much detail about finding the facebook page for your favorite branch library. Probably, you know more about Facebook than I do.

I will use finding the Facebook page for Headquarters as an example.

I go to my personal Facebook page.

On the left side of the screen will be the Search symbol where you can click on that symbol.

A search box will appear that will allow you to type in the name of your library.

Examples of ONLY SOME Library Activities and Programs

Here are some samples of many, many activities provided through the libraries of the Iosco-Arenac District Library system of libraries. One of the main messages of Headquarters is that "Libraries are more than books" and that is very true.

The following posters and pictures are REPOSTS that are located on the Facebook pages and websites of Headquarters and the branches of the Iosco-Arenac District Library system. As I say over and over, these are only a a very small sample of the happenings provided and continue to be provided to the communities of the Iosco-Arenac District Library system of libraries.

MOST of these happenings are PAST examples of what the IADL can provide.

The following is a August 30, 2018 posting on the Robert J. Parks Library Facebook page.

"Thank you to the Robert J Parks Library and the Whittemore Branch Library for hosting this fun program, thank you also to the MSU/4H for providing such an interesting program. Special Thanks to the Chickie Mamas-Diana, Rosemary, Kathy, & Nancy!"

On June 8, not sure of the YEAR, but the call went out for "All JUNIOR GARDENERS" to the Robert J. Parks Library.

"Come join us at the library for lessons on sustainable living, edible flowers, growing beautiful gardens and more!
Jr. Garden Club will meet 2 Wednesdays a month this summer from 11-12 pm. Open to ages 6-11. Call to register and for more info. 739-9581"

The Tawas City Library Friends group has a summer book sale.

The following posting is from early summer, 2022:

Their Facebook page says: "If you just can't wait for Tawas City Library Friends' summer book sales (starting next Saturday!) you can always pop in to their Used Bookstore in the library, open from 9 to noon every Saturday! Because there's nothing better on a summer day than to soak up some sun with a good read!"

I will add this information from their poster.

PLEASE READ: The Tawas City Library SUMMER Book Sale is the SECOND SATURDAY of June, July, August, and September. Let me repeat that: SECOND SATURDAY of June, July, August, and September. Their poster says that they are NOT having sales at the Farm Market.

The book sale is from 9:00 AM to Noon AT the TAWAS CITY LIBRARY location. 208 North Street, Tawas City.

In addition to this book sale outside the Tawas Library, the Friends of the Tawas City Library maintain a small room FILLED with used books for sale IN THE LIBRARY that is open every Saturday. This "inside the library used book sale" is ongoing for most of the year within the library on Saturdays, when the library is open.

ANIMALS

I know that I should know better than to say that some library programs are more popular than others. After all, all library programs are popular. Right?

Still, I think that it is safe to say that the library programs involving animals are among the more popular library programs. I will present some pictures from some of the websites and Facebook pages of libraries of the IADL.
